Michael J. Groves, AICP - Senior Principal

Michael is the founder and Senior Principal of the firm. Through a commitment to excellence in client service and the hiring of highly qualified personnel, he has successfully established EMC Planning Group as one of the leading land use and environmental planning firms in the Monterey Bay Region and California’s Central Coast. Michael has a Bachelor’s degree in Geography and Environmental Studies from the University of California at Santa Barbara. In addition, he maintains professional certification from the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP).

Michael has been Monterey High School’s head varsity baseball coach for the past 28 years. Under Michael’s leadership the team has won thirteen league championships in the past sixteen years. The team has also qualified for the Central Coast Section Championship Tournament the last 17 years in a row for a total of 23 times in the past 28 years. They have won two section championships. Michael has been named both league and county coach of the year many times and was named on the list of top 25 coaches of the 20th Century for all high school and college sports in Monterey County. Michael says “Mostly its about serving the community. I love coaching and I love working with these student athletes on teamwork, focus, and life issues and giving something back!”
